Ex-UPS Driver Sentenced In Thefts Of Gold & Silver Bars

| Business Crime

A former driver for Atlanta-based United Parcel Service Inc. (NYSE: UPS) accused of stealing shipments of gold and silver is sentenced to eight months in jail followed by probation for three years.

Kevin Christopher Peel, who would face more than eight years in prison if he violates his probation, was sentenced Wednesday after pleading no-contest in November to six felony counts of grand theft and “related enhancement,”reports The Record Searchlight in Redding, Calif.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Ben Hanna said that despite having a good job with a lot of responsibility, Peel, a 20-year employee, stole an estimated $242,000 in gold and silver bars and coins over a period of more than a year, the paper reports.

During a preliminary hearing in April, a sheriff's detective testified that officers executed a search warrant in October 2014 at Peel's home and found cases of silver and gold bars and coins in his safe that matched missing UPS shipments, the paper adds.
