A former Royal New Zealand Navy officer will take up the position as Bay of Plenty Regional Harbourmaster from Friday – a position vacant since last December.
In a statement released today, Bay of Plenty Regional Council announced Peter Buell will begin the role at the end of the week replacing predecessor Carl Magazinovic who resigned in December. Tourism New Zealand spokesman Chris Roberts said the new laws had changed the dynamic between New Zealand and other countries and between lower-value group tours and higher-spending free independent travellers. Prices for group tours to Australia had increased around 50 per cent.
